When I was a kid, I really wanted to be a mutant. I know I’ve mentioned this before. I wanted to have super-powers to look into someone’s mind or to move things with my mind. I wanted to be friends with the so-called freaks who had more personality than normal people. Have you ever looked and thought about living in another world?
Writing is a lot about what ifs? Marvel Comics themselves have created an entire series based on the concept of what if something slightly different had happened in the comics than actually did. I want to do a ‘What if…?’ here. It will be a simple enough concept.
What would my life like an X-Men look like?
I would have joined the X-Men during Grant Morrison’s New X-Men run. Like I said above, I would want telepathic and telekinetic powers. I think I would fit right in during the years Quentin Quire and the Stepford Cuckoos found their way into the school. I could train under Jean Grey or perhaps Psylocke in the short time she was there. (The death of both of them could put me in a melodramatic X-Men style place by the end of the run).
Inevitably, I would get involved in the major upheavals. I would keep my powers during Decimation. I would move with school on Utopia. I may even stay with him during the Schism. Avengers vs. X-Men would lead me back to the school. I’d show up in Wolverine & the X-Men. Finally, I would join the second series of All-New X-Men during the Black Vortex. I’d take Jean’s place as the team telepath and telekinetic during the X-Men vs. Inhumans. And would stay be a liaison for the team and the Xavier Institute in X-Men Blue.
Okay, I am Mary Sueing myself a lot. And that happens, especially in the imagination. If I am going to make myself a mutant, I want to make myself the best mutant I can be. I want to throw people around. I want to learn from the best. I want to have the coolest friends throughout. It’s all part of the creative process.
I didn’t really put anything about dating, or real personal character arcs. I sure there would be some. I would be in the All-New X-Men and could help Iceman come out with himself. I may even be a supporting character in the Iceman series. Maybe I could have been the bridge between older and younger Bobby? It’s hard to tell considering as soon as I put myself in the story everything changes.
Who knows. In the end, I am not an X-Men. Instead, I’m a kid with a dream to have the body of an X-Men, write comics, and write novellas. This is my life, but it’s a lot of fun to think about yourself as one o these great adventurous people. Where would you be if you were an X-men? Who would be your team? Put it in the comments below!
