Hope and optimism reign supreme in my life. I don’t like to look at things negatively. I do have moments of stress, and sometimes they warp my life a bit. However, I like to shine brightly as possible and keep the people around me in good humor. The good people in my life help me keep my warmth going. One of the things I want to do with my life is keep perpetuating this warmth and optimism in the people around me. I also want to take it outward and give voices to types of characters that aren’t normally heard. Both those things amount t me sharing my warmth with the world.
I have thought a lot about how to give back as much as I receive. I found myself with a good group of friends lately like I haven’t had before. Specifically, these are friends who are also gay. I am so glad to have found such a good friend group. When I was growing up, I never had these kind of friends, close or otherwise. Granted, that was 1,200 miles away. They’re good, down to earth people. One of them has given me a lot to think about recently.
One of these friends also works with the Hudson Pride in Jersey City. Sometime soon, I hope to get in touch with him about volunteering some time in the center. I have a lot still on my plate with writing, changing of my job in the near future, I need to make the time to do some volunteering in the future. This is something I feel like I’ve always needed to do. I never had a lot of support when I was coming out, and I had to do a lot on my own. It’d be nice to help other people going through the same kind of stuff. It’s important to give back to your community.
I am giving back to the community in my own way with my writing. When I first start writing my stories, I always used to have a bisexual character. Granted, this was way back when I told people that I myself was bisexual. There’s nothing wrong with people who are bisexual, and I made sure like homosexual characters that bisexual characters get the same kind of representation. Characters from the LGBT community do not get the prime representation in stories, and I refuse to have I any other way.
These are easy ways to share the warmth of my life. I want to find ways to bring this warmth out to the world. I promote optimism in my stories. The heroes will always win in the end, although the complications will make it there to have a compelling story. As soon as I get my life in order, I’ll add volunteering within my community. It’s going to be good, and I should probably stop making excuses and just do it. It’s not easy to give out the warmth, but I will always keep trying.
