Sixty Day Superhero – Day Twenty-Two

The last week has definitely been more downs than ups, but that is going to happen. Last week, nonetheless, was a positive week moving forward. It’s helping me get in the right mindset to take the life by the horns and ride.

Early in the week, I fought back my own fears about a job interview. Fears are there to make us wary and prepare for the worst. However, we should also not let them hold us back from the things we want to do in life. We need to overcome them, like Kyle Rayner or John Stewart (Green Lanterns for all you Marvel fans). That’ll bring us closer to being the superheroes that we want to be in our life. It’s not an easy thing, but if we can learn to do it we will be better off in the long run.

Changing up the gym routine is hard. This oddly tied right back into fears at the gym. I don’t know how to do certain things and instead of trying them I tend to just keep with what I’m good at. I, sadly, only went to the gym twice this week instead of three times. This was mostly because of my job and lots of heavy lifting that I had to do. This will need to change this week so that I can get a little bit closer to my superhero lifestyle.

Taking a few moments to relax can be great. It gives you time to take in the world around you and actually just be present. This ties directly into the idea of putting away technology, which I discussed on Saturday. Both of these things can enrich the mind in a lot of ways. Just be careful of too much relaxing. The world is still happening around you, and you are the one who defines your destiny. If you don’t reach out and try to grab it, you’re never going to hold it in your hand.

Keeping your focus isn’t always easy. There are lots of things out there in the world to pull you away from your goals. If you want to write a novel, you may have thousands of stories locked inside your head. If you focus on one, you have a greater chance of finishing all those stories. One task at a time will help you more than multiple tasks going on at once.

Finally, I talked about the importance of balance between your professional life and personal life. Both are important parts of your life, and both need to be given the appropriate amount of time. However, there are boundaries and limits that you need to put on each to make sure that you have a healthy life in each.

This week, I spent a lot of time on the mental aspects of things. This week, I need to spend enacting these different things into my life. I don’t want to be Hamlet and let inaction cause my own demise. That’s going to be the most important thing this week. Doing. Mentally preparing is not a bad thing, but if it stops me from actually doing it’s not worthwhile. Let’s have a good week moving forward of actually doing things. That’ll set me up for superheroic future, and that’s the goal.
