Life can throw you some major curveballs when you’re on a healthy journey. This morning, I had trouble waking up and actually going about my usual schedule. Oddly, I woke up at roughly the same time I normally would at 12:50pm. I was not fully rested, but earlier in the morning things threw me that ball.
I woke up at 7:45 and could not go back to sleep. By 8:30, I made my way to the gym, writing a blog post on the way. By 10am, I was back in bed and finally able to get back to sleep with a little bit of food in my belly and having read comics.
Things like this happen. You can’t sleep at night. Your kid is sick from school. You are sick. It feels like the world is pushing against you and trying to stop you from achieving your heroic future. I’m going to let you in on a little secret, the world only gives you what you can take. It also gives you what you put out in the world. If you constantly complain about things, the world is going to give you more things to complain about. I had trouble sleeping, and I spent 45 minutes thinking of nothing else but my inability to go to sleep. I had to get up and do something to actually get my mind to shut down.
Nonetheless, it’s not always that easy. If you’re sick or stuck at home, you might not have the same kind of active energy pushing through you. I do recommend just trying to do anything to push your goals a little further in these times of trial. You can just make your bed and go into the other room. You can sketch a couple quick drawings if drawing is your thing. In my case, I make sure that I write before I do anything else.
On days when your life seemingly gives you a hard time, just take one step forward. You don’t have to take a running step, or a leap, just do something to move you forward. More than once, I will text my friends exactly what I want to do during the day. I do not always get the entire list done, but just sending the message puts it on into the universe the things I need to do.
This helps me take that sidestep forward. Today, for instance, I did a weak workout. I just did two circuits of the body weight workout, I normally do three. I lifted only 15 lbs hand weights instead of 20 lbs. This still worked up a sweat and got me moving. It got me to the gym. It was all about keeping it up and doing the best you can.
Life is never going to be perfect. We are going to have problems that will set us back. You have seen it on my journey here that has happened. However, I try to take a step forward. I try. Yoda might say do or do not, but I say just try. Even if you try, you’re doing something in that act, and that’s what’s important.
