100 Days Healthier Me – Day Seventy-Eight

Rest is important. Today, of all days, I get that. I tend to have odd hours due to the life of a bartender. I get home from work around 1:30am and give myself a couple wind down hours before before going to sleep. Then, I tend to schedule my alarm for around 12:30 or so. I tend to wake up and start my day. Last night, I could not get to sleep.

I woke up at 7:30am. I was not wide awake, but my mind started raging with everything from story concepts for an online game to my own Sentinels stories. At 7:45, I picked up my phone and after thirty minutes of checking Facebook and Twitter, I opted to get my butt out of bed and head to the gym.

Exhaustion sucks. I’m the guy who generally wakes up two or three times a night to run to the bathroom, but I tend to fall right back asleep in my warm comfy bed. Today was just not one of those cases. At least, I am using the time to my benefit. It will inevitably cause some trials with my sleep schedule which, as I said in the beginning, will cause problems with trying to go to bed early.

It is probably not the healthiest thing to do what I’m doing. I’m hoping to push my level of tires over the edge with a workout and then throw myself back into bed. Nonetheless, it means that I don’t need to go to the gym later. It may also backfire and throw me over the wakeful ledge. Then, I will not be able to sleep at all and just be staring at my ceiling. Blog posts will be done and I’ll have gone to the gym. Means I only have to shower, get coffee, and make my way into work.

It’s hard for me to actually keep a sleep schedule. When I worked at the pizzeria, I tended to have a changed schedule constantly. It would seemingly be set in stone only for someone to get fired or call out. I was then obligated as manager to go in. Some days, I would close and get home by 1:30am. Other days, I would need to be in by 9:00am. It really can play havoc with ones sleep.

Now, I should be focusing more on it than I do. My schedule is pretty set, except for the occasional pick-up shift. Originally, my plan was to simply go to sleep by 2am and wake up at 10am to get all my writing and work done. I pushed it back a couple hours so that I can game nightly with my roommate online. Needless to say with how today is going, I have absolutely no idea what or when sleep is going to happen tonight. Nonetheless, I will try to hit the hay as soon as I get home from work and that’s as early as I can get.
