I have a lot of goals on my plate. Why? Because I cannot stop with a single idea. I start with one thing and then have a billion other things on my plate. In the end, I am not going to be able to do all of the Sentinels by myself, but getting my baby of the ground is something I have to do. The Sentinels of Earth is my end career game. I want it to envelope everything. I want to have an office with my friends and the family we create because of this. First, I have to finish this gosh-darn novel. Now, is the time.
I am planning all this out with unrealistic expectations. Why? Because it means that I will get it done by the time my actual editor wants me to get it done.
Right now, I have roughly 48,000 words written for this story. That leads to a climax in the story that will only rise further in the part I’m currently writing. I have roughly another 23,000 words to write. I do not exactly know how the story is going to end, although I do have a rough idea for two epilogues.
I want to have the third part written by next Friday. That means 23,000 words in roughly a week. It means that it is going to be complete focus between now and then to complete those words. My editor wants me to have this novella done by March 28th. I want to have a finished unedited copy for my best friend by the time I see him on the 8th of March in New Orleans.
Once I have this written, I will start editing parts one and parts two. I wanted to have the third part completed so that I can make sure ideas thread through the complete novel. And that everything will be coherent. I have to have the completed first part done by the 28th of February. And figured two weeks after that part 2, and two weeks after that part 3. I’ll then proceed to do one more major edit on the entire novel and have it completed early April. If everything goes well that is.
This is the large game plan. Charmaine wants to have the book out by my birthday this year, which sounds both so close and so far away. However, I did say last year that waiting another year to get this novel done is obnoxious. I said this year I would write this novel and look, I am doing it.
This is all the first step in setting up a company surrounding the Sentinels of Earth. Everything that comes after it from a podcast, comic books, television shows, or movies. It’s all going to take me a lot of work, but in the end, it’ll all be worth it. As I always say, it’s one step at a time and a lot more after, but I have to take that one step to get it started.
